Shoreham Academy Weekly Email – 17/05/19
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 11 Exams
We are now at the end of week one of exams and we would like to congratulate Year 11 on the fantastic start they have made. There is a lot of hard work to do now in preparation for next week so please spend some time looking through the numerous success sessions that are running on Saturday and next week and encourage your child to attend as many as these as possible. We know that being taught by an expert teacher is the best way to relieve the stress around revision that can often occur when students are sat at home alone unsure what to do. Students are working long hours so please continue to support them in eating a balanced diet and getting the right amount of rest. We find at this point students’ emotions will be all over the place which is normal as they are tired and the relief of completing an exam can trigger a range of emotions including tears. Whilst this is normal if you are worried please let us know so we can continue to provide support and guidance.

Year 11 Success Sessions Saturday 18th May
Tomorrow morning we have Maths Success Sessions running from 9.00-12.00. In these sessions teachers will be preparing Year 11s for Paper 1 which students will sit on Tuesday morning. We hope all year 11 students attend this session as there will be targeted teaching by maths teachers, lots of practice and opportunities to ask questions about areas they do not understand. Following this we have History and Geography sessions where pizza will be provided for lunch.

Sport England Funding Request
As part of the Teaching School Alliance within United Learning, Shoreham Academy is to receive access to some funding and PE CPD through a Sport England Teacher Training fund during 2019/20. To see whether this funding has any impact nationally, Sport England are asking that schools conduct baseline surveys with some staff and students. These would then be repeated in June 2020 to measure if any improvements have been made through this investment.
We are asking students in years 7-10 to kindly complete the survey. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and obviously the more students who complete the survey the more meaningful the data will be, both for us as a school and for Sport England. The survey is anonymous but students need to identify the school that they attend.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
